The traditional design rule is that your curtains should kiss the floor – even puddle a little bit on the floor. This classic look adds a sophisticated, luxurious touch to your space, and it’s the look chosen by most interior designers. Case #1: Your Curtains are Too Short
Before installing your curtains, it’s important to measure them precisely. Make sure the length of each panel is at least one-half inch longer than the distance from the bottom of your curtain rod to the floor. This will keep your curtains from having a saggy, unfinished appearance.
Case #2: You Want a Cleaner Look
If you’d like a modern, polished look in your space, you don’t need to have curtains that touch the floor. Hang the panels so they end slightly above the floor, or even let them hang freely a few inches above the floor. This creates clean lines in your space that can make the room look more open, airy, and contemporary.
You’ll need to decide what look works best for you and your space. Measure carefully, and don’t forget that it’s ok to break the traditional design rule about curtains and the floor. Hang your curtains where they look best – and make your rooms truly reflect your style.
